Google baby

Google seach. Start typing “Baby hates…” auto complete offers “tummy time”, “formula”, “crib”, “bath”, “rice cereal”, “car seat”. That’s the one, car seat. Search: “Baby hates car seat”. 51,000 results.

Son has hated the car from day one. We thought at first that he didn’t like it when the car stopped, I mean everyone knows kids LOVE riding in the car. So we avoided red robots, and hesitantly paused at stop streets. But then we realized the incessant wailing began when the car started and ended only when the car seat was removed from the vehicle and clicked into the pram. We've tried a mirror, toys, loud music, having someone ride in back with him providing constant attention-- nothing helps. At least 90% of car trips involve constant screaming.

Looking to see if we are the only ones in this predicament I turned to the internet and found that at least 51,000 other people have suffered a similar fate. Trawling the forums I found the most helpful advice to be: “It gets better!” Apparently that will happen, if not before, when we can switch to the "big boy" car seat. The practical advice ranged from “taking out the headrest in the car seat so he can move his head around and see better” to “play the Baby Einstein Playtime CD- track 13- Old MacDonald” and “the Fisher Price Deluxe Auto Mirror with Music & Lights”. The first one is maybe worth a try, not too sure about the others, but if I have to wait till he can get a “big boy” car seat (which is when? Like at 1?) well, I might just capitulate!

Tomorrow’s search will be for “baby hates the bottle” and “baby hates getting out the bath” and maybe “baby hates having clothes taken over his head”…
