Human rights day was spent in the cycad forest at the botanical gardens celebrating Joelene’s birthday with Pongratz, sunshine and friends. To counteract the over-indulgence of all of the above today was spent in lectures at the ‘Time of the Writer’ publishing forum. Sounds dry and some of it was, but with a new speaker every half an hour from 10 till 4, one can’t drift too far away for too long. Topics ranged from ‘understanding publishing contracts’ to ‘creating culturally relevant books for kids’.
The strong morning crowd petered out after the lunch break and only the stalwarts remained till the end. Glad to say I was amongst the stayers because the speaks just got better.
Outstanding speakers included a Nigerian-born Norwegian writer enduring writer’s block, Fred Khumalo, Darryl Bristow-Bovey (of major plagiarism scandal infamy) and Justin Nurse- L.I.O.
Tomorrow is Friday
