Bloggers brawl

A clash rages through the pages of the South African blogging community and site traffic has never been higher.

The issue of contention: how this years blog awards are being judged.

The South African blog awards site announced that the awards will be judged differently this year. One of the three groups with a final vote will be “a panel of South African bloggers selected by no other criteria than their passion for blogging.”

Many of these passionate panellists are nominated in various categories of the competition.

Journalist for the Sunday Times (and blogger at *crazyrant*)reported:

Seth Rotherham of 2Oceansvibe (“best overall blog” winner for the past two years and probably the SA blog with the highest readership) wasn’t nominated in the “best overall blog” category and wasn’t asked to judge. He pulled out of the competition and said SAblog awards had lost all credibility.

Then Jo’blog (panellist and ‘boys club’ member) wrote a post called “Seth is a w@nker” defending the awards and knocking everything 2Oceansvibe.

Now a debate is raging and the blogging community is picking sides.

From the one side comes the cry “2oceansvibe isn’t even a blog” and “he acted like a brat, attacking the awards that we’re working hard on” and basically that Seth Rotherham is an egomaniac. Other’s say, to sum it up crudely: “Seth is most definitely a wanker. He knows it. We know it. We love it!”

So that’s basically the blogger brawl. Now you don’t have to wade through 100s of comments to get the gist of it all.
