Dummy debate

In hospital the sisters at the maternity unit gave Son a dummy. With my permission.

The midwife who came to help us with getting him to latch took the dummy away. She said it causes “nipple confusion” and is totally unnecessary.

The sisters were unimpressed when they heard the dummy had been laid-off and said it only helps to sooth him as he falls asleep and when his nappy is being changed. And there’s no such thing as nipple confusion.

Just mommy confusion. And I was…

Then I spoke to my own sister who says she would be extremely happy and relieved if her boy would just take the darn dummy. He hates it. A bit of non-nutritive sucking would help her out big time, she says.

But now Son has made up his own mind; he is over the dummy and doesn’t want to know.
