Broadway watch

A musical set to the songs of Bob Dylan is closing less than a month after it opened on Broadway. “The Times They Are A-Changin”, a fable about a struggling circus, did not capture the magic of Dylan's songs, so my internet sources tell me. Critics say it's because of the circus setting and the nearly incomprehensible storyline. The musical-set-to-the-music-of-famous-musician(s) genre has been seen in South Africa with ‘We Will Rock You’ and “Mama Mia”. Ones we haven’t seen include Billy Joel's Tony-award winning musical “Movin’ Out” and another which flopped entitled “Lennon” about the late Beatle.

We all remember the movie Edward Scissorhands, we watched it on Beta Max back in the day when Johnny was engaged to Winona. That was the off-screen story, the on-screen one was of a boy, created by an eccentric inventor, who has scissors for hands. Well Johnny moved on to Vanessa Paradis, who knows what’s happened to Winona, and the movie has been turned into a dance-musical which is being described as a hit around the world. Wonder if we’ll get it here now that “Mama Mia” and “We Will Rock You” have moved on to where ever musicals go when they die. Some other movie to stage productions in the works or already on board are Legally Blonde, High Fidelity, Heartbreakers, The Little Mermaid and Dirty Dancing.

And lastly, a reading of a “new Jewish comedy,” by David Neiman entitled The Jordan Goldman Bar Mitzvah Sting, will be happening somewhere in Manhattan this week featuring, among others, Barrett Foa, who I think looks just like my brother!

For the non-believers:

Add some highlights in the hair and there is definately something there, hey!
