Their birthdays are months away. I have been preaching patience but finally I just said I'd write down the list. Somehow that seemed to make them happy. Like committing their wish list to paper means the items on it are a step closer to being theirs.
For what it's worth (possibly just posterity), here's the list as of October 1 2015:
What Little M wants
for her 5th birthday-
A pink computer
A mermaid suit
which has a tail
Elsa make-up
(Frozen)
Barbie with a
microphone and Barbie with a guitar
Some Polly Pockets
with a house
A girl with a
beautiful dress and colour changing hair
A girl art set
What Son wants
for his 7th birthday-
An iPad (a real
iPad)
Lego- the giant
bird lego
An expensive Super
Hero
A big chemistry kit
A big chemistry kit
Of course they can't get everything they want. Choices will have to be made, various factors will come into play (price, suitability, availability, amount of parental input required...). Hopefully in the end all are satisfied with the winning pressies and we'll be saved from lists like this for at least 6 months.

PS. The next birthday we celebrate is BH the birth of a little sibling to these two!
Could be any day now...
