Fortunately, all the prep for Son's fourth birthday party was otherwise stress-free.
With the shopping behind me, bar one quick stop for ice and milk (you can never have everything, can you?), the sunny Sunday of Son's party finally arrived. By 10am the trees at our nice little venue cast a kind morning shade, creeping back only around mid-day.

Really, such a nice venue this mini train at Virginia Circle. It is centrally located, well contained and super fun for four year-olds (and their dads) with a little train that goes round and round and round for all two hours of the party.

In the grassy middle area, alongside a few rudimentary jungle gyms and swings, I'd set up three tables and some big throws on the ground with the Sunday papers.
The tables went like this:
1. Wooden Trestle-
Coffee, soft drinks and adult snacks (cheese platter with grapes and mini cucumbers, chips, quality street and that milk tart which no one ate except my brother-in-law. Thanks Ilan.)
2. Concrete Round-
Ben 10 plastic table cover with Kiddies snacks (flings, nuts n raisins, pretzels, chomps and some sweeties)
3. Small Wooden From Home-
activity station for decorating Marie biscuits and then later, the birthday cake.

That train cake, just wow.
Best I've seen- Son's 00 teacher is the real cake boss!
I loved all the goodies in the carriages, the liquorish train tracks and the rainbow engine.
Magical.

Son said he enjoyed this party so much he wants to have it at the same place next year just with a different cake. Maybe he feels the same as me about the milk tart. Though more likely he loved dreaming up a cake (ummm.... a train... a rainbow... a rainbow train!) and then see manifest before him in all its colourful glory to be shared with family and friends.
Tomorrow we wake and Son is actually four. He'll get loads of pressies and we shower him with love. Then Spur for fish fingers and Chicco the Clown ice-cream! Oh, to be four!
