New is nice

New is nice. We're in the new house, with new carpets and already-mucky newly painted walls. We have a new view: no longer the glittering harbour at night through the crevice between buildings, but a 180 degree outlook of the dam, valley and sugarcane fields.

Blessed with all this newness, we have been able to bless others with some new stuff too. Recipients include the Durban Children's home and iThemba Lethu, which got children's clothes, ladies' dresses, toys, exercise equipment and a dart board. Through ACTs we delivered household goods, furniture, a carpet and a heater to a centre for early childhood development and a child-headed home. Many boxes of books were collected to stock the library of a rural school. Someone somewhere got three large wooden lounge cabinets- delivered by a guy who came to collect the straggling pieces not taken by us or our helpers who were also well spoiled. Mavis at work got a couple of bags, some clothes and crockery. And Son's old blue desk and bedside table, which were once my brother's, also have a happy new home (though I can't recall who actually landed up with them in the end!).

Letting go of the old makes room for the new. And while I know my filing cabinets won't remain as minimalist as they are now for long, I do hope our happy new home continues to feel uncluttered for a while yet, filled just with stuff we really love ~~~~ handed-down wooden furniture, comfy couches, uncracked kosher kitchenware, this crazy big TV and of course, learning, laughter and lots of love and yummy food.
