Moving Time

“...shall be determined by agreement between the SELLER and the PURCHASER and, failing agreement, by an independent registered valuer appointed by the Association of Valuers whose decision shall be final and binding on the parties”

This sentence just made me cry. For real, it moved me to barely concealed tears right here at the Press Club in Umhlanga.

The clause previously said something about the decision of the SELLER's appointee being final and binding but then my clever husband picked it out, along with a few other nits in the sale agreement for our new home, and what remains seems, from my lay perspective, a reasonable and fair document, which will hopefully now be right and ready for us to sign before moving at the end of the month.

The end of the month is a week away. It's the end of an era. We're leaving our cozy Glenwood home and heading to a brand new development in a brand new suburb of Umhlanga, to a unit where the final coat of paint hasn't even gone on and there are still wires hanging out of the wall. We are leaving the home we’ve lived in for 5 years, watched our babies become toddlers in and the close proximity of special friends and familiar places.

We'll be close to other special people and find new favourite places (one probably being the one I'm sitting in right now), but packing up and saying goodbye is weighing on my heart. 

And what will our two-year-old and four-year-old say when they realize that "moving to Umhlanga" actually means new rooms and never again seeing their old ones? Having a brand new home and never again running laps around the garden of the one they know and love?

I worry. But on the outside it's all smiles and optimism because I know they will love it, we will love it, and it's a good move for us at the right time in our lives. 

So tomorrow hopefully we will finally sign that agreement (the 10th draft it'll be), book the movers and prepare for the next chapter: filling a gorgeous shell of a house with our stuff, our love and our life.
