Training wheels at the driving range
Robbie and I are learning to play golf. The first lesson with our coach David was all about setting up the shot. Things such as how you arrive at your grip and stance and getting lined up are an important part of the pre-shot routine. We have been practicing this routine for two weeks now and last night at the driving range there was definitely an improvement from both of us. We do actually hit the ball as well. Taking the backswing to the three o’clock mark, sweeping the grass on the way there, making sure the club is square on target, getting the timing right counting ‘1’ at the top and ‘2!’ as you strike the ball- soaking in the feeling of a good shot as you watch the balls flight through the air. Hopefully. But that is what the set up ritual is all about- before the lesson my only routine was to just swing and pray, now every time I approach a shot it’s the same- at least it should be. Two more lessons with David and we should be ready to hit the golf course!
